FAQ
What is a training bra?
A training bra is designed for girls in the early stages of development who are ready for more coverage and support than a basic crop top, but don't need an adult bra yet.
The Essential First Bra is a soft, seamless training bra made specifically for growing girls, with gentle support, removable padding and adjustable straps for a comfortable fit.
When should a girl start wearing a training bra?
There isn't one right age to start wearing a training bra. Every girl develops differently.
Some signs she may be ready include breast development beginning, crop tops no longer giving her enough coverage, feeling more comfortable with extra support under clothing, or simply asking for her first bra.
Sassh first bras are designed for girls aged approximately 8–14, with flexible sizing for growing bodies.
What is the difference between a crop top and a training bra?
A basic crop top usually provides coverage but very little shaping or support. A training bra is the next step, designed specifically for developing breasts with a more secure fit, gentle support and added coverage.
The Essential First Bra bridges that gap with soft seamless fabric, removable padding and adjustable straps, without underwires, bulky cups or uncomfortable clasps.
Should a training bra have padding?
It doesn't have to. Some girls prefer padding for a little extra coverage and modesty, while others feel more comfortable without it.
That's why the Essential First Bra comes with light, removable padding, so she can choose what feels right for her.
How should a first bra or training bra fit?
A first bra should feel comfortably snug without digging in, riding up or restricting movement. The underband should sit securely around her body and the straps should stay comfortably on her shoulders.
The Essential has adjustable straps and a soft, flexible underband to make finding a comfortable fit easier as she grows.
What size training bra should I buy for my daughter?
Start by measuring around her ribcage directly underneath the bust. Sassh sizing uses this underbust measurement to help you find the best starting size.
If she falls between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size for comfort.
See our Girls' Bra Size Guide for simple measuring instructions and our full size chart.
Can the Essential First Bra be worn for school and sport?
Yes. The Essential is designed for school, everyday wear and light activity. Its seamless design sits smoothly under school uniforms and T-shirts, while the soft, breathable fabric keeps her comfortable throughout the day.
For running, netball, cheer or higher-impact activities, we recommend choosing a Girls' Sports Bra for additional support.
What if her first bra doesn't fit?
Finding the right first-bra fit can take a little trial and error, so we offers free size exchanges within 30 days for Australian customers on eligible unworn and unwashed items.
